Chiang Mai is known to be the cultural center of Thailand, and the place to head to do all your souvenir shopping, for the best prices and the best deals. I was actually surprised by the diverse range of things to do in Chiang Mai, and feel you could spend a lot of time here without being bored.
Here’s some ideas for things to do in Chiang Mai!
Head to the Anusarn Night Market, browse all the handmade crafts and bargain for some clothes and souvenirs.
Get a Thai massage from the Chiang Mai Women’s Prison, where they teach women how to give massages to rehabilitate them into society.
Visit the Chiang Mai Tiger Kingdom for some photo ops with live unchained tigers…
Explore some of the wats, pagodas and buddhas around Old City Chiang Mai:
Ride Elephants, watch them paint pictures and play soccer at the Maetaeng Elephant Park. These elephants seemed happy and well taken care of.
Visit the Karen Longneck Village (this can be combined with an elephant ride from the Maetaeng Elephant park):
Get your feet nibbled on at a Fish Spa!
Go Ziplining at Flight of the Gibbon, which has the longest zip line in Asia!
Go watch a monkey show at the Chiang Mai Monkey Center (It’s an idea, although I do not necessarily agree with how the monkeys are treated and kept at this facility):
Have a few buckets of Sang Som (Thai Rum) and Coke while listening to live bands at the Chiang Mai Rasta Bar.
Drink fresh baby coconut and relax!
